Who We Are
Salone Reads believes that a nurtured mind is one of Sierra Leone's greatest resources. Our mission is to cultivate the minds of Sierra Leone's thinkers, creatives, and leaders by building community libraries and expanding access to books that spark imagination, deepen knowledge, and open the world.
Salone Reads began with a simple idea: books are access. Access to knowledge accumulated over centuries. Access to experiences beyond your own — to lives lived on other continents, in other centuries, through eyes entirely unlike your own. Access to ideas that comfort, challenge, inspire and transform.
This kind of access can expand what a person believes is possible. That belief in what is possible, even if you have not yet seen it with your own eyes, is what we are nurturing.
What We Do
We curate books that open minds. Our collections span African literature, world classics, children's books, science, history, poetry, and fiction — carefully chosen to reflect Sierra Leonean voices, celebrate African stories, and connect readers to the wider world.
We support readers of all ages. From picture books for the youngest readers to novels, essays, and non-fiction for adults, Salone Reads is for everyone. Imagination has no age limit.
We will build community libraries. We plan to build community libraries that are welcoming, sustainable, and deeply rooted in the communities they serve.
